Pilot recruitment at Vueling

Airbus A320 family fleet. Recruitment of qualified pilots and, depending on the needs of the IAG group (which also runs cadet programmes for its other airlines such as British Airways or Iberia), of newly qualified pilots through cadet programmes.

Pay and conditions, as pilots report them

Figures reported by pilots, not confirmed by the airline, each one dated (last update: May 2026). For information only.

  • Captain: about €87,700 a year at the first steps and up to about €146,900 at step 14 according to the October 2022 scale; about €98,300 to €164,600 according to April 2025 figures. A new captain starts at step 4 (about €102,000).
  • First officer: from under €16,000 in year 1 to about €73,400 at step 15 according to the 2022 scale, between €17,900 and €82,200 according to 2025 figures; a new first officer starts at step 4, 5 or 6 depending on flying hours.
  • Allowances: about €54.32 a day domestic and €96.18 international, plus €28.28 per night away (2019).
  • Rosters: fixed 5/4, or a variable roster paying about €416.66 a month more for a captain and €208.33 for a first officer (2019). Leave: 30 days picked by the pilot by seniority (2024).
  • Staff travel: unlimited standby tickets for yourself and 8 people of your choice, plus 24 tickets a year to give (2019). Pension: Mutualidad Loreto.
  • Situation: move to the Boeing 737 MAX (3 aircraft in 2026, 10 in 2027, then 15 to 20 a year); command by internal upgrade only, in about 10 years; hiring described as neutral (May 2026).
  • First officer profile: Spanish EASA licence, class 1 medical, ICAO English level 4 at least, ATPL; cadets trained at FTE Jerez and Cesda.
  • Selection: online psychometric tests a week before (The Predictive Index), then day 1 aircraft knowledge, procedures and written and listening English, day 2 interview and role play, day 3 simulator (2019).

Preparing for psychometric tests before a selection

Some pilot selections include psychometric tests. ForAllPilots does not say whether Vueling uses them, or which ones: none of the series below is presented as Vueling's.

To practise anyway, the site offers several series of exercises, included with the ATPL subscription. They are practice exercises, not official tests: ForAllPilots is not affiliated with any airline or any test publisher, and the exact rules or scoring may differ.
