Pilot recruitment at Volotea

A 100% Airbus A319/A320 fleet. Volotea launched an MPL (Multi-Crew Pilot Licence) cadet programme of about 18 months with BAA Training, open without prior flying experience to applicants aged 18 or over with the right to live and work in the EU, leading to an A320 first officer position at Volotea; the programme page showed enrolment as closed in early October 2026. Check current requirements and openings on Volotea's careers page.

Recruitment information is given as a guide only (public sources, subject to change over time): always check the current conditions on the airline's careers site.

History of Volotea

Volotea was founded in 2011 by Carlos Muñoz and Lázaro Ros, former founders of Vueling, and began flying on 5 April 2012 from Venice. It started with Boeing 717s before moving to the Airbus A320 family (the last 717 left in January 2021). In 2021 it won public service obligation routes in Sardinia, and in 2023 it signed a sales cooperation with Eurowings.

Pay and conditions, from public sources

Figures published by the airline, pilot unions or the press, each one dated (last update: October 2026). For information only.

  • Pay scale: according to SNPL, the pilot scale has not been raised since 2012, while cumulative inflation is around 25% (September 2026).
  • Pay level: a study commissioned by the works council and cited by the union puts pilots about 40% below the average of French airlines excluding Air France, and up to 50% for captains (September 2026).
  • Demands: some first officers are reportedly paid below the French minimum wage; SNPL asks for +20% for second officers and +10% for other pilots (September 2026).
  • Dispute: SNPL, UNAC and SPL called French-based pilots out on strike from 4 to 6 September 2026; management then announced winter flight cuts at several French bases (September 2026).
  • Rosters: the union criticises four-sector days, with report times around 5 am or last flights around 9 pm (September 2026).
  • Career: second officer straight from flight school, then first officer with a mentoring programme from 1,500 hours, and senior first officer at 3,000 (factorised) hours, eligible for captain upgrade (careers page viewed October 2026).
  • Recruitment: a campaign for the nine French bases (including Nantes, Lyon and Brest) offered permanent local contracts; no pilot vacancies were open when we checked in October 2026 (December 2023).

Preparing for psychometric tests before a selection

Some pilot selections include psychometric tests. ForAllPilots does not say whether Volotea uses them, or which ones: none of the series below is presented as Volotea's.

To practise anyway, the site offers several series of exercises, included with the ATPL subscription. They are practice exercises, not official tests: ForAllPilots is not affiliated with any airline or any test publisher, and the exact rules or scoring may differ.
