Pilot recruitment at Finnair

Finnair requires all its pilots to be fluent in Finnish and English (Finnish citizenship is not required). There are two main routes: 1) the Finnair MPL programme, run with Center Air Pilot Academy (Denmark) and then at Finnair's Vantaa training centre, lasting about 22 months and leading to an MPL with an Airbus A320 type rating included; it is fee-paying (€60 000 according to Finnair, part of it paid after employment) and the latest application window has closed; 2) for holders of a commercial pilot licence, further training of about two to three months (first officer course, simulator, type rating) before flying as a first officer. Other published criteria: upper secondary education, a minimum height of 163 cm, medical fitness under EASA and Finnair criteria, normal colour vision, and a Finnish police security clearance. Check open positions and upcoming intakes on Finnair's careers page.

Recruitment information is given as a guide only (public sources, subject to change over time): always check the current conditions on the airline's careers site.

History of Finnair

Founded in 1923 as Aero O/Y by Bruno Lucander, with backing from Junkers, the airline flew its first service in March 1924 between Helsinki and Tallinn with a Junkers F.13 seaplane. The Finnish state took control in 1946 and the Finnair brand has been used since 1953. The AY code recalls the original name, Aero Osakeyhtiö.

Preparing for psychometric tests before a selection

Some pilot selections include psychometric tests. ForAllPilots does not say whether Finnair uses them, or which ones: none of the series below is presented as Finnair's.

To practise anyway, the site offers several series of exercises, included with the ATPL subscription. They are practice exercises, not official tests: ForAllPilots is not affiliated with any airline or any test publisher, and the exact rules or scoring may differ.
