Pilot recruitment at Cargolux

An all-Boeing 747 freighter fleet with a single base in Luxembourg: pilots can commute from home (jump seat on Cargolux flights from the nearest destination), and rotations average about seven days. The careers page lists: EASA Part-FCL ATPL, or CPL/IR with ATPL theory, or MPL; at least 1 500 hours multi-pilot multi-engine time (jet or CS-25 turboprop); EASA Class 1 medical; ICAO English level 4 minimum (level 6 preferred); the right to live and work in the European Union; and agreement to transfer your licence to a Luxembourg-issued EASA licence. Both B747-400 type-rated and non-type-rated pilots may apply; type rating is delivered by Cargolux's own training centre in Luxembourg (an EASA-approved training organisation with 747-400F and 747-8F full flight simulators). Selection includes aptitude tests, an assessment centre, a 747 simulator check and an interview. No ab initio cadet route is mentioned. Check open positions on the Cargolux careers page.

Recruitment information is given as a guide only (public sources, subject to change over time): always check the current conditions on the airline's careers site.

History of Cargolux

Cargolux was set up in March 1970 by Luxair, a Swedish shipping group, Iceland's Loftleiðir and private Luxembourg investors, starting in May 1970 with a single Canadair CL-44 between Luxembourg and Hong Kong. Its first Boeing 747s arrived in 1979, and the 747 became the airline's signature aircraft. Its shareholding has changed over time (Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, then Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment in 2014).

Preparing for psychometric tests before a selection

Some pilot selections include psychometric tests. ForAllPilots does not say whether Cargolux uses them, or which ones: none of the series below is presented as Cargolux's.

To practise anyway, the site offers several series of exercises, included with the ATPL subscription. They are practice exercises, not official tests: ForAllPilots is not affiliated with any airline or any test publisher, and the exact rules or scoring may differ.
