Leisure airline
Jet2.com at a glance
British leisure airline based in Leeds and part of the Jet2 plc group, operating scheduled and charter flights from its bases in the United Kingdom to southern Europe, the islands and the Mediterranean, working closely with the tour operator Jet2holidays.
- Bases
- Leeds Bradford (original base), plus 13 other bases in the United Kingdom including Manchester, Birmingham, London Stansted, Glasgow and Belfast International
- Fleet
- Boeing 737-800 and 737-300, Airbus A321-200 and A321neo (A321neos on order are gradually replacing the oldest aircraft)
Pilot recruitment
Mixed Boeing 737 / Airbus A321 fleet: depending on base and needs, pilots are trained on one family or the other. Jet2 recruits experienced pilots (captains, first officers and senior first officers). For newly qualified pilots, the Future Second Officer Programme requires a frozen ATPL issued in the United Kingdom, a multi-engine IR and a British Class 1 medical, and leads to a funded type rating as a Second Officer on Airbus or Boeing. For candidates with no experience, the fully funded Jet2FlightPath programme offers around 18 months of training with one of three partner training organisations, followed by joining as a Second Officer at one of 14 British bases; requirements include the full right to work in the United Kingdom and eligibility for a CAA Class 1 medical. Note that since Brexit, UK CAA licences and medicals (not EASA) are required. Jet2FlightPath applications are currently closed: check upcoming intakes and open positions on jet2careers.com.

The Jet2.com selection, as candidates tell it
What candidates report on forums (Aeronet, Pilot Jobs Network) and what the employer publishes, summarised by ForAllPilots. It is not the official process: it changes from one campaign to the next, always check the posting.
Reliability of the reports : medium
The stages
- Online tests: numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning and a long personality questionnaire (several attempts sometimes possible).
- Recorded video interview of three motivation questions.
- Assessment day: group exercise (often a shipwreck scenario) and competency-based interview; older sessions included COMPASS, maths and technical papers.
- Fixed-base simulator (737 or 757 depending on availability) of about 45 minutes, often on a separate day.
The aptitude tests
- Numerical and verbal tests are tightly timed: few candidates finish.
- COMPASS mentioned in older sessions.
The technical part
- Basic flying in the simulator: level-off, acceleration and deceleration, steep turns with heading callouts.
Candidates' tips
- Do the sample tests under real time conditions.
- Get used to the 737's strong pitch-up couple when applying power.
- Find out about the company and its package holiday model.
Our exercises to prepare
Give yourself every chance
A cadet selection mostly assesses your potential: aptitude tests (attention, mental arithmetic, spatial orientation, memory), English, then a motivation interview and often a group exercise.
Practise the aptitude tests regularly, in short sessions, and track your scores: progress is what counts, not a cramming week.
Revise the theory basics (meteorology, navigation, principles of flight): many selections touch on them, and you will need them from day one of training.
